Hot Girl Summer – Postcard Edition

This is a Postcard Edition of the „Hot Girl Summer“ photo series by Sophie Ramirez. It comes in a set of 17 laserprints with a text by the artist about her experience with the implementation of this project. The pictures were shut with a bluetooth self timer on IPhone in Crete, Greece, during summer vacation. In the style of common posts by female influencers, the artist posed in a different bikini everyday and cut her hair step by step off. Initially conceptualized for a feminist art exhibition, „Hot Girl Summer“ was banned from the show and still polarizes in discussions about emancipation, social media and personal freedom. In comparison to other works of the artist, this photo series is not only reflecting on a certain topic, but the documentation of a development as a consequence of it, at the same time. In the text included, SOFF shares her feelings during the process of letting identity-concepts go, accepting complexity and finding self-confidence.
